A little anecdote from a September Monday morning on the way to dropping my daughter off at school...
"But Mommy, can you explain to me what your job is for? I understand that you run activities or pitch tipis everywhere, but... What is the point?"
With a 3-minute car ride between home and the gate, I had to be concise, and it was a great exercise!
"Okay... for the activity part, imagine you're on a treasure hunt with your friends. The treasure is hidden somewhere, but to find it, you have to follow several clues.
1/ The first clue is in the garden. You're very good at finding things in nature, so you find it quickly.
2/ The second clue is a math puzzle. Your friend Paul is a math whiz and finds the answer easily.
3/ The third clue is hidden high up in a tree. Your friend Marie is agile and isn't afraid to climb to get it.
If you had tried to find the treasure alone, it would have been very difficult, maybe even impossible. But because you put your talents together and helped each other, you found the treasure in no time!
Team-building is exactly that. It teaches us that everyone has different strengths, and by using them together, we become stronger. It's like training to become superheroes, but instead of having powers, we have talents we share with our team to succeed!
... and for the Tipi events... Imagine you're throwing a big party for your friends. You want everyone to have fun, no matter the weather. A marquee is like a giant fabric house you can set up anywhere to protect you from the rain or sun. It's like bringing a room from the house into the garden to play. Here are the two main reasons:
1/ Weather is no longer a problem. You spent days preparing everything: decorations, games, the cake... But the day before the party, the forecast announces rain! If you have a tipi, it doesn't matter! Everyone stays dry, and the party can continue. It's also very useful if it's super sunny: the tipi offers cool shade to prevent sunburn. It's a great solution to make sure the party isn't spoiled by bad weather.
2/ More space for fun. Often, the house is too small to invite all your friends and cousins. With a tipi, you have a huge space to organize games, a dance floor, or even a sack race! You can invite many more people, and everyone can move as they please. It's like a big playroom you can set up wherever you want...
Does that make more sense to you?"
Next time, I'll show her the faces of the participants in our activities :)
